Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), the Canadian owner of patents for technology used in mobile phones, fell in midday trade after agreeing to end a legal dispute with Toshiba Corp. (TYO:6502), the world's second-biggest maker of flash memory.

Wi-LAN decreased 3.1 percent to C$3.48 at 1:20 p.m. in Toronto.

Toshiba will get a license to use some of the patents as part of the deal, Ottawa-based Wi-LAN said in a statement today, without unveiling further details.

The two companies agreed to end pending litigation in Florida between the parties concerning some television patents, according to the statement.

In August,  company officials made a commitment to reducing legal costs.

Founded in 1992, Wi-LAN has a growing portfolio of more than 3,000 issued or pending patents.
